Orkus (Nov 2006)

No limits

12012 is the Ensemble that honors the Visual Kei with its music, style and creativity completely. Their slightly murky sounds are accompanied by adequate outfits and are now finally brought to the Europeans. Founded in 2003, the young wild ones are starting of to a splendid career. Even though one knows by now that Japanese Rock has got many facets, these five can stand out with their slightly different sound. We just had to take the chance to ask these five some questions before their first trip to Germany. A short introduction of these fascinating artists, anticipation and expectations is what 12012 gave to us.

Orkus: First and foremost we want to talk about your music. Imagine a person that does not know your sounds. How would you make them curious for your music?
12012: Our music is Rock. We would make him listening to our music immediately.

Orkus: There are a lot of meanings behind “12012”. Your music, your extraordinary styling and without a doubt a very interesting band name! Where does it come from?

12012: It is a police code and means: possession of a dangerous weapon. This fits the concept of 12012.

Orkus: Who came up with that idea?

12012: It was Suga’s idea, for the reasons mentioned above.

Orkus: We heard that you handle the band leader concept slightly different. People say you change this position on a regular basis! Is that true? Why did you decide to do that?

12012: We did not do that intentionally. Maybe the 12012 Sound can be created like this the best.

Orkus: 12012 was founded in 2003. Did you know from the beginning what you would like to achieve with this formation? And have you reached your aim already?

12012: There have always been small aims and we have succeeded every time. Our current aim is to bring our music to more people.

Orkus: What was your most important experience in three years of band history?

Miyawaki: the recording of PLAYDOLLs.

Suga: Our Oneman Tour.

Sakai: For me, too.

Enya: Our tour in Japan.

Kawauchi: Everything.

Orkus: Do you want to be described at a Visual Kei Band?

12012: Sure.

Orkus: Unfortunately, many japanese groups dissociate from this term…

12012: It’s because there is a negative image of Visual Kei dominating public opinion. However, we have our own way of thinking and it is not our intention to assimilate public opinion. And so we don’t care about it.

Orkus: You have ran through an optical alteration in your career through intensifying your taste for dark clothes. Where does that preference for black come from?

12012: It is easier to express 12012 then.

Orkus: Japanese artists like to use pseudonyms. But you are performing under your real names! Why did you keep them?

12012: Because we want to express ourselves naturally and not faking.

Orkus: Were all of you agreeing to that or were there different opinions?

12012: We decided to do this when we founded the band. But there was also disagreement…

Orkus: On September 29, you are playing your first concert in Europe. To be concrete: in Munich. How do you feel about this trip?

12012: We look forward to it.

Orkus: What do you look forward to in particular?

Miyawaki: to the reactions and voices of the audience – and the german sausage.

Suga: Stimulation, beer, emotion.

Sakai: to see the audience, to go into a shop where they sell instruments, just german.

Enya: an exciting show, excitement for me personally, great beer.

Kawauchi: I can’t think of anything more – come to see our show, we will give our best.

Orkus: Do you remember the moment when it was definitely sure that you would come to Germany to present your music? What did you feel in that moment?

Miyawaki: a given opportunity.

Suga: No limits.

Sakai: “I’m excited”.

Enya: (smirks)

Kawauchi: It is a pleasure to be expected in Germany.

Orkus: What typical pictures do you have in mind when you think of Germany?

12012: a historical country, beer, berlin [german capital]

Orkus: Do you want to say a final message to your fans?

12012: No limits = 12012
